Methyl 3-(4-Bromomethyl) cinnamate was prepared by bromination of methyl p-methyl cinnamate with N-bromosuccinimide. Methyl 3-(4-Bromomethyl) cinnamate was condensed with imidazole in ionic liquid N-n-butyl pyridine tetrafluoroborate at room temperature, and then alkaline hydrolysis was carried out to obtain the antithrombotic drug ozagrel sodium with an overall yield of 67%.
